Hampshire Heroes

Communities throughout Hampshire have been doing an incredible job over the recent months, pulling together more than ever to support those in need. We collaborated with several other Hampshire based businesses to create five gift boxes, each worth over £100, as a thank you for some of the special people who have gone above and beyond during the Coronavirus outbreak.
We asked our followers to nominate someone who they thought deserved a thank you gift box. These people ranged from those working for the NHS or emergency services, care workers, supermarket assistants or neighbours/friends who started a great initiative to get supplies and support to those who most need it.
Nominations were open to the public throughout April and were then judged by a panel, including representatives from charities Winchester Churches Nightshelter and the Hampshire Medical Fund. The panel read over 250 incredible nominations - all of them being for completely outstanding and selfless people who have gone above and beyond to help those in need and each and every one of them are Hampshire Heroes to us. The following five really stood out to our panel and will each have a fantastic gift box of goodies delivered to their door!

ADRIAN & JENNY SEGOVIA
FROM WALTHAM CHASE POST OFFICE

This lovely couple received over 40 nominations
"Adrian & Jenny have gone above and beyond to help everyone in these tough times by sourcing things that others can't get and staying up late looking. They're even making fresh pasta when there is no dried. They are delivering to those in isolation for free and generally just helping a whole village of people. They are total stars and largely unsung in these times. The hamper would be a lovely thank you from the whole village for bending over backwards to provide for the local community!"

HAYLEY SNYDER
FROM BASINGSTOKE

"Hayley lives on minimum wage but still wants to share her small good fortune with others. I am so proud to have her as a friend and work colleague. She works at Paydens Pharmacy in Brighton Hill as a delivery driver and whilst in lockdown has been given a small bonus for working on the frontline. She has offered to buy a weeks worth of groceries for one struggling family in Basingstoke per month, with her bonus, and safely deliver it to their doorstep."

LIBBY MAIN
FROM PETERSFIELD

"Mums are always heroes but Iʼm overwhelmingly proud of mine these last few weeks. Mum is a radiographer who has been X-raying the lungs of patients with Coronavirus. Every day she puts her life on the line. This nomination goes to not just my Mum but to all Radiographers and Physiotherapists who rarely get mentioned and yet are also frontline staff."

LISA MAHER
FROM COLDEN COMMON

"Lisa has been organising lots of food and drink donations and camp beds for all the hospitals in our area. She has also organised the making of scrub bags and headbands for all the NHS staff at the local hospitals and even whiteboards and pens so staff can still communicate with each other, as they are struggling to do so through the PPE they have to wear. She has been delivering all the donations to the local hospitals herself. I donʼt know her myself personally but I think that this is such an amazing thing to do in a time when everything is so uncertain."

IMOGEN PAYTER
FROM HAVANT

"From a standing start, Imogen has organised a volunteer network of several hundred people, to support those in the Havant area who need help with shopping, medicines or other issues arising from self-isolation. Imogen has done this with energy, efficiency, enthusiasm and, most of all, irrepressible cheerfulness. Her selfless efforts to provide much-needed assistance to members of her community is inspirational and fully deserves recognition from Winchester Distillery."

Thank you to everyone who sent in a nomination and to the lovely businesses involved: Bee Good Skincare, Summerdown Mint, River Coffee Roasters, Hill Farm Juice, The Hampshire Jam and Chutney Company, Lixir Drinks, Bay Leaves Larder and Valiant Design.

As a thank you to the charity panelists for their time and involvement judging the entries of Hampshire Heroes, we have donated £250 each to Winchester Churches Nightshelter and the Hampshire Medical Fund.
